The type of movement expected is a translational landslide made up of blocks of basalt sliding on a weaker sedimentary layer.

The elevation is only about 3,300 feet, so the incline really isn't that rough. You hike through shady, lush forests and then come out on top to overlook Rattlesnake Lake below (where many people swim on hot days).
